Length of Time: Saturday 9:30 am - Sunday 12 noon

Day Camp option: March 25, 2023 / April 6, 2024 - Organic Gardening 10 am - 3 pm Cost: $40 Bring your own lunch

Class Description

It is definitely a "work"shop. Get your hands in the dirt and help out.

Saturday

  • Learn about how to plan and then plant a vegetable garden.

  • What grows good in our area of Texas.

  • Seed information disclosed - viability, heirloom, organic, hybrid.

  • Why and how to stay organic.

  • Soil the foundation for gardening

  • Composting, how, what, when, why.

  • Water conservation

  • Vermiculture

  • Use of gardening tools and proper care and maintenance.

    Saturday evening

  • Cook healthy meals with your harvest.

  • Cooking dinner together.

  • Overview of “you are what you eat”

    Sunday

  • Fruit tree planting, pruning, harvesting. Other fruits.

  • Raising Chickens for eggs and meat.

Dinner Saturday night will be provided and used as teaching time to cook healthy foods. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Then there will be a sharing Fruit Salad as part of the Sunday lunch. Everyone bring one fresh fruit serving and know where it was grown.

Girl Scouts coming to earn their It's Your Planet Love It Journey will need to do a Take Action project Sunday after lunch to complete the requirements for this rank. We will help you with every step to get this accomplished.

Family rate discount: We will honor the Scout rate to families who want to do a project, such as plant a tree. Talk to us for details.
