Class Description

Ages: 16 year olds and up.  

This class is for all of you who "wish" they had a horse. You will get a general overview of the responsibilities of having a pet of this size. Wear your old blue jeans and boots, if you happen to have them (otherwise, gym shoes are fine), because you will get a chance to do some basic riding.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

  • Horse Anatomy

  • Grooming - tools and techniques

  • Learn about the various tack (bridles, saddles, etc.)

  • Feeding Rules

  • Health Maintenance

  • Teeth and Age

  • Farrier Care

  • Learn to Halter, Lead, and Tie correctly

  • Riding Basics

  • Knowing the Gaits the horse travels in

  • Rules of the Trail

  • Safety when working with horses

ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS FOR OUR ADULT STUDENTS

  • Proper riding posture

  • Yoga exercises on horseback

  • Listening to what your horse is saying

  • Communicating with a horse so that you understand each other

  • Bareback experience

  • Riding Patterns and Obstacles

Bring your own lunch and plenty of drinking water.

If you have a helmet, please bring it.  

Class space is limited to 6 adults so register early. (Additional dates will be scheduled as the sessions fill.)

NOTE: If the class registration minimum is not met, we regretfully must cancel that session. Be sure to share the session info with your friends!
